§ 01Overview

Overview

A dashboard is only useful if the people reading it trust the numbers. That trust comes from two things: clear definitions, and a reconciliation back to the system each figure came from.

The proposed MIS work starts with the questions management asks every month, then builds the reports that answer them, with every total traceable to its transactions.

Input

  • Trial balance and ledgers
  • Payroll registers
  • Sales and purchase registers
  • Budgets and targets

Output

  • Monthly MIS pack
  • Interactive dashboards
  • Reconciliation note per release
  • Definitions register

§ 02What it covers

Scope, line by line.

CAP-02.01

Monthly MIS packs

Profit and loss, cash, receivables and payables views, laid out the same way every month.

CAP-02.02

People-cost views

Payroll cost by department, location and pay head, built from payroll registers.

CAP-02.03

Compliance calendars

Due dates with filed, pending and overdue status, fed from your own records.

CAP-02.04

Drill-down

From a total to the transactions behind it, so a question can be answered in the meeting.

CAP-02.05

Scheduled refresh

Data refreshed on a calendar, with a reconciliation check before each release.

CAP-02.06

Definitions register

A written definition for every measure, so the same word means the same number.

§ 03How it runs

The dashboards line,
stage by stage.

The same five-stage discipline as every request: intake, validation, processing, review and delivery, shaped for this work.

Dashboards and MIS: Source, then Reconcile, then Model, then Review, then Publish. 01 Source Ledger, payroll, sales 02 Reconcile Totals match source 03 Model Defined measures 04 Review Second check 05 Publish Role-based access

§ 04Controls

Checks built in,
not added on.

Intended practice · to be confirmed

  • Every released figure reconciles to a source total
  • Measure definitions are documented and changes are logged
  • Access is limited by role
  • A release does not go out if its reconciliation fails

§ 05Questions

Common questions.

Q01Which dashboard tool do you use?

The choice follows your existing systems and licences. The website lists tools by category only; no vendor partnership is claimed.

Q02Can the MIS run from spreadsheets?

Yes, where that is what you have. Spreadsheet sources get the same reconciliation checks as system data.
